What is the Shikon no Tama?

The Shikon no Tama, otherwise known as the Jewel of Four Souls, the Shikon Jewel or the Sacred Jewel, is from the anime/manga Inuyasha. It is a round jewel which looks like a glass ball and has a good deal of power. Even a shard of it can increase the strength, speed, skill and regenerative abilities of a demon.

Inuyasha attempted to steal the jewel in order to become a full demon (he is a hanyou -- half-demon). He was stopped and pinned to a tree by Kikyou, the priestess who guarded the jewel. When Kikyou died she had the jewel cremated with her, so it was then passed onto her reincarnation, Kagome, who lives in modern day Tokyo.

The Shikon no Tama resided in Kagome's body until she fell through a well which took her back in time to Japan's Sengoku Jidai (or age of warring states) fifty years after Kikyou's death. During a fight with a demon shortly after she arrived, the Shikon no Tama was forced out of Kagome's body and soon after she accidentally shattered it while trying to save a child from another demon. The shards were spread all over the place, and Kagome (with the reluctant help of Inuyasha) must do her best to collect all the pieces.

The shards of the Shikon no Tama are called Shikon no Kakera (or simply jewel shards in the English version).

What is a fanlisting?

The fanlisting concept was thought of by Janine, of seraphic-devil.org. There are hundreds of different fanlistings for people, places, things, concepts, tv shows, movies, and couples. They're individual lists of fans who like that certain subject. If you want to know more, check out TheFanlistings.org or The Anime Fanlistings Network.

What about the layout?

The site is skinned, so there are two different layout choices at present:

v.1 entrancing, which features an image of Kagome holding the Shikon no Tama in her palm and another image of the Shikon no Tama by itself merged and blended and altered by myself

v.2 sacrifice, which features an image of Kikyou being cremated with the Shikon no Tama

What about the site?

While trying to name the site, I first thought of "Bejeweled" because the Shikon no Tama is of course the Jewel of Four Souls. Then I decided I didn't particularly like the word, so I switched "jeweled" for "souled" and came up with "Besouled."

The graphics (unless otherwise noted) were all done by Selene la Luna. The original images used in the layout and some of the codes were found at Sengoku Jidai. Other images used in the codes were found in Google image searches.

The PHPFanbase 2.1 script used on this site is Copyright 2003 Sasha, nothing-less.net. All rights reserved. I originally used Sasha's NL-Convert to PHP to convert the site to PHP. The skinning of the site was made possible with Angela's wonderful script phpSiteSkin.
