Who are Kagome and Sesshoumaru?

Why Sesshoumaru and Kagome?

My reasoning for why Sesshoumaru and Kagome could have a good relationship (either as friends or more), follows below. However, this is just *my* opinion -- you can have a completely different one and still be just as much a fan, so don't let it stop you from joining. :) Also, no offense is meant to Inuyasha/Kagome fans, as that is my second favorite relationship in the series... right behind Sesshoumaru/Kagome of course. ;)

From the first moment they meet there's a tension between them, this underlying... something that I immediately recognized and was drawn to. Sesshoumaru is by nature (his breeding and upbringing) a calm, calculated and cold personality. Kagome is just the opposite -- bright, cheery and full of life. The blend and confrontation of those two opposites is what makes their relationship in the series, and the "possibility" of their further relationship, so interesting. Kagome is really a tremendously strong character, and she stands up to Sesshoumaru, even knowing he could likely kill her in an instant, and I think that strength, bravery and loyalty allows Sesshoumaru to respect her somewhat -- even though she is a human. In return, I think (especially after he took in Rin) Kagome can see more to Sesshoumaru than most others are willing to see, beyond the cool mask of the Lord of the Western Lands. These very things are what allows a relationship (be it friendship or more) between two characters who at first seem so opposed. I think they could rely on and support each other in a way none of the other characters in the series could; from what we know and can guess about their pasts, I could see them understanding each other. Though Kagome and Inuyasha are the given, Kikyo will always be something of an unsettling issue. With Sesshoumaru, Kagome would grow more as a character and be in a more equal standing. Alternately, Sesshoumaru would have someone he could trust and who would take him as he was, without trying to make him something he wasn't. In the series their rivalry is almost entirely because of Inuyasha -- several times Sesshoumaru even tells Inuyasha to keep Kagome out of their fights, but because of her loyalty Kagome continues to get involved, and I think that allows Sesshoumaru to see something in her that he otherwise wouldn't allow himself to see. Sesshoumaru and Kagome's relationship is confrontational, but that confrontation could lead to an understanding that would build a strong relationship of any sort.

What is a fanlisting?

The fanlisting concept was thought of by Janine, of seraphic-devil.org. There are hundreds of different fanlistings for people, places, things, concepts, tv shows, movies, and couples. The site is skinned, so there are two different layout choices at present:

v.1 pale blue, which features a blend by myself of Kagome, Sesshoumaru and Sesshoumaru in his demon form from the anime

v.2 wistful, which features altered images of Kagome and Sesshoumaru from the anime

What about the site?

It took me a long time to come up with the site title. At first, I only knew that I absolutely didn't want to use the word "love" or any variation of the phrase "opposites attract." Then I considered something that took an aspect from each character and blended them into a title -- that really didn't help either. Finally, I went over the application I'd sent to TFL explaining why I loved the relationship so much, and the word Understanding just struck me. It can be taken on a number of levels, so you can pick whichever suits your own view of the relationship.

The graphics were all done by Selene la Luna. The original images used are from Anime Galleries dot Net. The PHPFanbase 2.1 script used on this site is Copyright 2003 Sasha, nothing-less.net.
