What is Midnight?

Midnight is the only fanlisting approved by The Anime Fanlistings Network for the relationship between Cain and Shido from the anime NightWalker (aka NightWalker: Midnight Detective or Night Walker: Mayonaka No Tendei).

Cain and Shido?

Cain and Tatsuhiko Shido are characters from the anime series NightWalker. Both are vampires, though they are radically different from each other, at least on the surface. Shido dedicates his life to hunting nightbreeds and protecting humans through his detective agency, trying to make amends for the past. The memories of his life before he was turned are lost to him, taken by Cain, but he wishes desperately to regain them so that he can become more like the human he once was. On the other hand, Cain thinks of little else except what pleasure he can get from life, and enjoys being a vampire to the fullest. He has no remorse for his actions, but his one regret seems to be that Shido is no longer with him.

Shido was turned into a vampire by Cain several hundred years ago, though the exact time, and anything about their pasts before then, are unknown. After the turning, Cain and Shido remained together for some time as companions and lovers, feasting on life without care or regret. At some point later, for reasons unrevealed, Shido began to feel remorse and tried his best to become more like the human man he had once been. Shido left Cain in an effort to escape his influence, but in an attempt to bring him back, Cain stole Shido's memories of his human life.

Cain's prescence is felt throughout the series as he watches over Shido and interferes on several occasions in attempts to sway Shido's resolve to stay away from him. He still wants Shido to return to him more than anything else, and although his former lover refuses him at every turn, Shido's first instinct is still always to join Cain again. Each time Cain returns for him Shido's resolve seems to weaken a bit more, and Cain has shown that he will be relentless -- and patient, if necessary -- in his goal to have Shido at his side again.

What is a fanlisting?

"A fanlisting is simply an online list of fans of a subject, such as a TV show, actor, or musician, that is created by an individual and open for fans from around the world to join. There are no costs, and the only requirements to join a fanlisting are your name and country. Fanlistings do not have to be large sites (although some are), they are just a place where you can sign up with other fans. What about the layout?

The site is skinned, so there are two different layout choices at present:

v.1 different shades, which features altered and edited images of Cain and Shido separated and shaded in different colors

v.2 possession, which features an altered and edited image of Cain standing behind Shido and holding him close in a rather possessive way

What about the site?

The site name was given by the original owner, Myka, and I liked it so I decided to keep it. To quote her: "It's called Midnight because it's the first thing that popped in my head and because they're vampires (but that was pretty obvious ne?)."

The graphics were all done by Selene la Luna. The original images used are from various Google image searches. The PHPFanbase 2.1 script used on this site is Copyright 2003 Sasha, nothing-less.net. All rights reserved. I originally used Sasha's NL-Convert to PHP to convert the site to PHP. The skinning of the site was made possible with Angela's wonderful script phpSiteSkin.

I adopted this fanlisting from Myka of madness-within.org on February 8, 2005.
