What is Belonging?

Belonging is the TheFanlistings.org approved fanlisting for the relationship between Spike (aka William the Bloody) and Tara Maclay from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series.

Who are Spike and Tara?

Spike (also known as William the Bloody) and Tara Maclay are characters from the television show Buffy the Vampire Slayer and it's spinoff Angel. Spike is a 120 year old vampire, killed and sired by Drusilla after his mortal love rejected his advances. Tara is a witch (she apparently inherited the power from her mother) and she was introduced into the Scooby Gang after she met Willow and they started dating. Spike is played by James Marsters and Tara is played by Amber Benson.

Why Spike and Tara?

As soon as I saw Tara I began seeing the similarities between her and Spike. They're both extremely smart, and even though Spike puts up the loud/boisterous front, we know he can possess the quiet and thoughtful quality that is usually written all over Tara. Alternately, though Tara is termed shy and reserved, it has been shown she can be incredibly strong, willful and passionate (things usually associated with Spike). In the fourth season they were both the new kids on the Scooby block, both alone/lonely and anxious to be a part of something. We all know, know matter how Spike might argue otherwise, that he always wanted somewhere to "fit in" and belong. Spike certainly has both "good" and "evil" sides, and I can see that answering duality in Tara (though her darker side is much better hidden). Just based on their similar personalities and lives and desires, I could see them having an amazing friendship that could become something much more. There were hints of their comraderie in several episodes, and I only wish we could have seen a deeper friendship or more develop between them.

Just a Note

My reasoning for why Spike and Tara could have a good relationship either as friends or more is just *my* opinion. You can have a completely different one and still be just as much a fan, so don't let it stop you from joining. If you're a fan of the rivalry aspect of their relationship (which I also enjoy), please feel free to join as well. This fanlisting welcomes fans of Spike and Tara's relationship in all forms. :)

What is a fanlisting?

The fanlisting concept was thought of by Janine, of seraphic-devil.org. There are hundreds of different fanlistings for people, places, things, concepts, tv shows, movies, and couples. They're individual lists of fans who like that certain subject. If you want to know more, check out the official fanlistings site.

What about the layout?

The site is skinned, so there are two different layout choices at present:

v.1 victorian, which features blended promotional images of Spike and Tara which have been recolored and edited

v.2 watching waiting, which features blended and recolored images of Spike and Tara doing just that

What about the site?

The site name was given by the original owner of the fanlisting, Lady Emma, but I thought it fit perfectly so I decided to keep it. To quote her: "Very simply, both Spike and Tara were somewhat outsiders in the Scooby Gang. Spike wasn't welcome and Tara really just didn't have the social skills to insert herself into the group the way she would've liked to. But in each other, they could have found a place where they both belonged, and we all know it."

The graphics were all done by Selene la Luna (unless otherwise noted). The original images used were found at ILB's IMG's. The PHPFanbase 2.1 script used on this site is Copyright 2003 Sasha, nothing-less.net. All rights reserved. I originally used Sasha's NL-Convert to PHP to convert the site to PHP. The skinning of the site was made possible with Angela's wonderful script phpSiteSkin.
